Pray without ceasing.

Good Tuesday morning, my friends.

Charles Spurgeon was a highly influential Baptist preacher in England in the 19th century.  Spurgeon was said never to have prayed more than five minutes at a time, but he never went more than five minutes without praying. He often mentioned that the secret of his success was prayer, and he cited the many church members who prayed regularly in the basement during the services and on other significant occasions.

I certainly have a long ways to go to match the prayer life of Charles Spurgeon.  But it makes a great goal.  In addition to his own prayer habits, I was struck by the way his members prayed for him and the church.  It spoke to me that I need to be more consistent in prayer for those who pastor to me.  For me that would mean praying for those who lead the church I attend; those who provide online resources that I read or listen to regularly; and organizations such as Promise Keepers and the Canadian Bible Society.

I would like you to consider the people and organizations who feed you spiritually.  The prayer below are words from Psalm 50.  Pray them for yourself and also for those who minister to you.  I would feel particularly blessed if you would pray them for me.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance,
Bruce

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

(Psalm 50:10-12)
