Feeling like a Laodicean

Good Friday morning, my friends.

This is kind of a follow-up to yesterday's question: On a scale of 1 to 10, where are you right now in your spiritual life, in your relationship with God?

A good friend of mine suggested I was selling myself short when I gave my answer.  I feel I may have exaggerated where I am.  The difference between these two points of view are that my friend sees what I do and hears what I say, but I know where my heart really is.  I often feel like a Laodicean:

"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:14-16)

This is one of those pieces of scripture that always causes me some discomfort (right up there with "Sell everything you have and give to the poor" - Luke 18:22).  In this passage from Revelation, some translations use "vomit" instead of "spit".  I don't know about you, but I do not want want Christ to feel nauseous in my presence.

So my prayer today is pretty simple.  I hope we all have the courage to pray it with sincerity.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance,
Bruce

Lord, let me make a difference for you that is utterly disproportionate to who I am.
